Asqella and Tallink Silja co-developing the future of secure passenger travel

Asqella and Tallink Silja Oy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding under which, and with the support of the EU’s Frontex project “SecurePAX” the companies are developing a new passenger harbour security solution, which relies on Asqella’s THz camera technology.

The application of conventional security checks in the context of passenger ferry travel is difficult due to the large volume of passengers. In the post-COVID-19 World, the importance of fast security checks is ever more important, in order to avoid unnecessary queuing and crowds that potentially increase the risk of contagion of infectious diseases. The piloting schedule of the project has been postponed due to the pandemic, but it will be continued as the ferry travel returns to normal.

Tallink Silja Oy is a part of AS Tallink Grupp, which is one of the largest passenger and cargo shipping companies in the Baltic region.
